I’m Showbiz Shelly, the entertainment reporter on B96. Five times every morning I report on the latest celebrity gossip on the Eddie, Jobo and Erica show. I also can be heard on Mondays on the Stylz and Roman show around 4:45 p.m., right before Flipside Fridays. My job has allowed me to travel to L.A. for American Idol, movie premieres, the Teen Choice Awards and so much more. I’ve had the opportunity to meet all kinds of celebrities from Chris Brown to Ludacris, Pink to Janet Jackson.
Born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, I grew up listening to Eddie and Jobo while getting ready for high school every morning. I was a huge music fan attending all kinds of concerts including several B-Bashes. Thinking radio might be a fun career, I auditioned and got a radio show all four years of high school. I went on to Northwestern University where I majored in broadcast journalism. Northwestern’s cable television station was a passion of mine as I did stories on concerts, plays and art exhibits happening all over town.
The first question everyone asks is how I got my on-air job on a major market radio station before I was even 21 years old. I started as an intern and worked my way up quickly. I first began as a B96 promotions intern, and then I interned for Stylz and Roman on their night show where I had a segment once a week called “Shelly’s Street Talk.” Soon I was asked to be an on-air reporter. I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous than I was the first few weeks I started with Eddie and Jobo. It’s like being a fan of Michael Jordan your whole life and then later playing on his same basketball team. It was crazy, but I soon got over my nerves because Eddie and Jobo were so welcoming.
